Dismissing a legitimate domestic or local political concern by invoking a much worse crisis elsewhere.
The Explanation
Often employed to deflect criticism. Politicians will compare a flaw in their governance to dictatorships or historical atrocities to make the domestic issue seem insignificant and petty.
Political Example
How can the opposition complain about our 2% tax increase when there are entire nations right now suffering from famine and civil war?
