The Explanation

While compromise is essential in politics, splitting the difference between a sensible policy and an absurd or harmful one results in a harmful policy.

Political Example

One party proposed a $10 billion budget. The other party proposed a $0 budget and dissolving the agency. The 'compromise' was $5 billion, which simply starved the agency to death slowly.
