The Definition

Assuming that the intense media coverage of a specific political scandal or demographic represents the whole.

The Explanation

When the media hyper-focuses on the extreme fringes of a political rally, viewers wrongly assume everyone at the rally holds those extreme views.

Political Example

Because the news played non-stop footage of a small group of rioters, voters believed the entire massive, otherwise peaceful protest was a violent uprising.
